Digital Auntie

Digital Auntie is an in progress thesis project exploring how a digital planning platform can help young adults navigate the transition to independent living. The concept connects housing, finances, and career planning into one supportive system, helping users assess readiness, understand tradeoffs, and move from uncertainty to action.

Project Preview, My Role, and Direction

Digital Auntie is a thesis project currently in development that reframes independence as a system of connected decisions rather than a single milestone. Many young adults want to move toward independent living, but rising costs, unstable job transitions, low financial confidence, and fragmented advice make the process overwhelming. Instead of treating this as an individual failure, the project approaches independence as a design challenge shaped by housing, money, work, family support, and timing.

The core idea is to create a modular digital platform that helps users understand how progress in one area affects another. For example, a housing decision may depend on income, emergency savings, job stability, transportation, and hidden costs. Digital Auntie aims to make these relationships visible through tools like a milestone map, readiness dashboard, affordability calculator, emergency fund tracker, and guided step system.

My role as project lead includes shaping the project direction, organizing the thesis proposal, defining the core problem statement, developing the project scope, and clarifying the final product messaging. I am helping guide the project from research into system design, with a focus on making the experience feel supportive, clear, and actionable rather than overwhelming or judgmental.

The current phase focuses on research, feasibility, and concept development. Upcoming work includes user interviews, journey mapping, system architecture, wireframes, prototype development, and multiple rounds of user testing. The goal is to build a functional MVP that allows users to assess their readiness, identify gaps, and generate a personalized next step plan within one connected system.

Digital Auntie is still evolving, but the project is grounded in a clear belief: young adults should not have to figure out independence alone. By connecting scattered information into a guided experience, this project explores how interaction design can support more confident, realistic, and equitable transitions into adult life.
